Finnish metal band Of Spite returns with new material after three years since their previous album (Riddle Redemption, 2023). New Raisu EP will be out next month and now the band presents a first bite "Serpent Coil" as a single from the upcoming EP.
Of Spite tells about the song:
"This song begins where the body usually ends… perhaps at the wrong spot. Flesh serves as a map, but no one knows how to read it, and pain serves as a compass that spins haphazardly. A thousand flames don’t burn; they whisper a name that mustn’t be spoken aloud, except when everyone already knows it.
The poisonous flame promises eternal life, but in practice it offers little more than constant discomfort and existential confusion. Wounds, scars, and random holes form a whole that one might call art, if one had to.
At times, the song pauses for a moment to breathe—or to bleed—and whispers something about open wounds that are perhaps deeper than they should be.
At the end, the body politely empties itself, time stumbles over its own shadow, and the final thought is removed for technical reasons.
A DIY-style music video has also been made for the song. The video was filmed in an empty swimming pool, and taking a sauna with chickens has nothing to do with it."

Of Spite is a metal band from Kotka, Finland known for its heavy sound and a way of polishing its work that’s almost as heavy as a deranged prison inmate smearing his own feces on the wall of his isolation cell.
The band is a five-piece group of experienced musicians with a strong background in both live performances and studio work. Their musical influences range from old-school melodic death metal to progressive rock, all the way to Kake Randelin.
Of Spite’s music blends death metal with stuttering progressive rock. This unique combination creates, through its paternal love, a perverse hybrid that doesn’t leave the listener alone with their conflicting emotions.

BIOGRAPHY/LOGO

Of Spite is a melodic death metal band from Kotka, Finland, formed in the early 2010s. The band combines the melodic foundations of Scandinavian death metal with progressive elements, unconventional rhythmic ideas and a distinctly heavier death metal approach. Rather than remaining strictly within the traditional melodic death metal framework, Of Spite has gradually developed a more eclectic and unpredictable style.
The band's first full-length album, Lucid Dreams, was released independently in July 2015. Produced and recorded by the band themselves, the album introduced Of Spite's mixture of melody, aggression and progressive tendencies. Following the debut, the band underwent several lineup changes that would have a considerable influence on its musical development.
During the following years, Of Spite's lineup gradually evolved. Bassist Janne Hietanen joined in 2016, while guitarist Samu Haatainen later became part of the band. Original members Antti Lampinen and drummer Joonas Nieminen remained at the core of the group. Guitarist/vocalist Topias Jokipii and guitarist/clean vocalist Ville Ruuth both departed in 2020, marking the end of another chapter in the band's history.
A significant change came in 2022 when Jere Harju joined as vocalist. With the renewed lineup in place, Of Spite finally prepared the long-awaited successor to their debut.
Eight years after Lucid Dreams, Of Spite returned with their second full-length album, Riddle Redemption, released through Inverse Records on March 31, 2023. The album represented a considerable evolution of the band's sound, combining influences from old-school and melodic death metal with progressive rock, unusual time signatures and increasingly complex arrangements.
Lyrically and conceptually, Riddle Redemption revolves around suffering of the human mind, madness and distorted perceptions of reality. Across its seven tracks, the album moves between aggressive death metal, melodic passages and rhythmically unpredictable progressive sections while retaining a strong and heavy foundation.
The album was largely recorded in the band's own rehearsal-space studio, allowing the musicians to work without conventional studio time restrictions. The drums were recorded at Deep Noise Studio by Saku Moilanen, who also handled mixing and mastering.
With Riddle Redemption, Of Spite established a considerably more individual identity than on their debut, developing their melodic death metal roots into an eclectic form of death metal characterized by intricate riffs, shifting rhythms, strong melodies and progressive experimentation.
