Constanța-based death metal band SCYTHE is excited to announce that their latest album “Boiled Alive,” released digitally on February 1st, will now see the light as CD version on June 19th via the Chinese label Awakening Records.

Romanian death metal dealers, SCYTHE, are steeped in OSDM influences in the vein of DEPRAVITY, RIPPING CORPSE, IMPETIGO, and BAPHOMET, combined with modern elements recalling similarities to contemporary bands such as MOLDER, CRYPTIVORE, and COFFIN ROT.
Formed in 2023, the rotten quartet - featuring drummer David Rolea, vocalist/bassist Andrei Constandache, and guitarists Mihai Panait and Andrei Oglan - released its debut demo the following year. On the band's debut full-length album, “Boiled Alive,” the band included three previous tracks from the demo, which are now receiving an official label release from Awakening Records.
Across the album's eight savage tracks, SCYTHE delivers a plethora of death/thrash compositions, loaded with filthy, fleet-footed transitional riffs, a barrage of barbaric rhythms, and disgusting, inhuman guttural vocals. At a perfect 34-plus minute album runtime, the replay factor is immediate.
The opening track, "Liquified Entrails," explodes with a blazing, eight-second mini drum solo that leads into a mid-paced, D-beat rhythmic thrust, with accompanying chugging riffs. Its OSDM groove merges slow-to-fast transitions in the blink of an eye. Tracks "Plastered in Phlegm," "Tenebrous Decease," and "Necrophilic Corpse Orgies" are littered with perverted lyrical themes and an abundance of filthy riffs.
Mixed by Cheyenne Brandt and mastered by John Braddock, “Boiled Alive” blends an old-school death metal aesthetic with modern studio techniques, giving the album a raw, rotten sonority.
Guitarist Mihai Panait talks about the writing and recording process for “Boiled Alive”: "We mostly wanted to achieve a more professional and true sonic experience. In this way, we want to thank Cheyenne and John for their devotion and patience in helping us achieve the sound we wanted. As for the writing process, I made almost all the riffs and lyrics for the songs, helped by the others with details and ideas."

SCYTHE is a young old-school death metal band from Constanța, Romania, formed in 2023. Drawing inspiration from classic acts such as Autopsy, Gorement, Impetigo, Pestilence, and Ripping Corpse, the band delivers a filthy, aggressive style of death metal built on crushing riffs, gruesome themes, and a raw underground attitude. Their music embraces the spirit of early death metal, blending savage speed, doom-laden passages, and horror-inspired songwriting.
The lineup consists of Andrei Constandache (bass and vocals), Andrei Oglan (rhythm guitar), Mihai Panait (lead guitar and backing vocals), and David Rolea (drums). The band quickly gained attention within the underground scene thanks to energetic live performances and a dedication to preserving the morbid atmosphere of classic death metal.
In early 2026, SCYTHE released their debut full-length album, Boiled Alive. Recorded in Constanța and initially self-released in digital format, the album showcased the band's combination of relentless brutality, memorable riffing, and grotesque lyrical imagery. The record received positive attention from underground metal media, with reviewers praising its authentic old-school sound, strong musicianship, and natural production. Physical editions later became available through collaborations with independent underground labels.
Lyrically, SCYTHE focuses on themes of gore, death, torture, and horror, embracing a deliberately disgusting and extreme approach inspired by classic death metal traditions. Rather than pursuing modern technical excess or polished production, the band aims to capture the raw energy and filthy atmosphere that defined the genre's late-1980s and early-1990s era.
Today, SCYTHE stands among the promising new names emerging from the Romanian extreme metal underground, carrying the torch for old-school death metal with a sound that is both viciously nostalgic and confidently their own.
