On December 11th internationally, ATMF is proud to present the highly anticipated sixth album of Sweden’s Seid, Dystopolis, on CD and vinyl LP formats.
The ancient spirit of the North collides with the cold reality of the modern world…
With Dystopolis, Swedish black metal force Seid deliver their most mature, personal, and ambitious work to date. Forged in the traditions of Viking black metal but refusing to remain confined by them, the album expands Seid’s sound into a powerful blend of raw Nordic aggression, progressive structures, haunting atmospheres, and evocative melodies.
At the heart of Dystopolis stands a confrontation between two worlds. The album explores what happens when the values traditionally associated with the Viking ethos—honor, courage, loyalty, strength, and belonging—are forced into the framework of an increasingly impersonal modern society. Ancient ideals collide with alienation, anonymity, and a world where human connections are increasingly mediated by systems, technology, and institutions.
Musically, this conflict becomes the driving force of the album. Savage black metal passages give way to expansive atmospheric landscapes and progressive turns, creating a constantly shifting journey between brutality and introspection. Dystopolis sounds rooted in the North, yet unmistakably concerned with the world of today.
Seid are led by creative force Seiðr, joined by Pär Johansson on drums and Alex “Phil A. Cirone” Purkis on bass, bringing together a formidable lineup with deep roots in the Swedish black metal underground.
More than an album about Vikings or the past, Dystopolis is an album about what remains of the human being when the world around him becomes increasingly anonymous.

BIOGRAPHY/LOGO

**Seid** is a Swedish black metal band formed in Stockholm in 2009 by vocalist, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Seiðr Jonsson. Drawing inspiration from Norse mythology, Viking history, ancient Scandinavian traditions and occult practices, the band has developed a distinctive approach to black metal that combines raw aggression, atmospheric passages and an unmistakable Nordic identity.
The band's lyrical themes explore Viking warfare, Ásatrú, rune magic, seiðr rituals, witchcraft and ancient prophecies. Musically, Seid blends traditional Scandinavian black metal with melodic guitar arrangements, powerful drumming and atmospheric elements, creating a sound that reflects both the brutality and mysticism of its historical and mythological influences.
Seid's origins can be traced to Jonsson's earlier musical activities, particularly his teenage project Neocrome. After returning to black metal in 2009, he began recording material that would eventually appear on *The Woods*, released in 2016. The album brought together recordings made over several years with three different drummers and established the foundations of the band's musical identity.
The band's first fully developed studio album, *Darkness Shall Fall*, followed in 2017. Recorded with drummer Arant and bassist Alex, the album represented a more focused and cohesive musical direction. In 2018, Seid released *Neocrome*, revisiting material and ideas connected to Jonsson's earlier musical beginnings.
The band continued its development with *Ulv* in 2019, followed by *Svartr Sól* in 2022. These releases further explored Seid's combination of fierce black metal, Nordic mythology and dark atmospheric compositions.
In October 2024, Seid released *Hymns to the Norse*, continuing its dedication to Scandinavian mythology and black metal traditions. The album demonstrated the band's ongoing commitment to its distinctive musical and thematic vision.
Throughout its existence, Seid has undergone several lineup changes, with Seiðr Jonsson remaining its central creative force. The band's later lineup has included guitarist Herjann Svolnir, bassist Alex Purkis and drummer Pär Johansson.
With its uncompromising devotion to black metal and the ancient spiritual traditions of Scandinavia, Seid continues to represent a distinctly Nordic interpretation of the genre, combining historical inspiration, occult symbolism and aggressive musical expression.
