This is the long anticipated debut release from the remains of the band who were once The Dead Lay Waiting. Featuring ex-members Ben Connett (lead guitar), Steve Franklin (rhythm guitar), Sam Sara (bass guitar) and Tom Shrimpton (drums) plus new frontman Jamie Harrison, SLEEP INERTIA are quickly earning themselves a reputation within the music scene. “Growth, Decay, Transformation” is exactly what you would expect from a band of this genre; a progressive-edged sound with complex and fresh riffs.
In a recent band interview, SLEEP INERTIA said:
Describe your overall writing process and how the songs came together for the EP?
Sam Sara (Bassist) “Writing these tracks came very naturally. The process has gotten easier as we've matured. Each song starts off as a rough idea, usually a guitar part brought to the table by Ben, Steve or Sam. Tom will then take the riffs with basic programmed drums and write his parts around these ideas. Lyrics are more often than not written after the music is completed, but basic ideas are sometimes born in the demoing of other instruments. When we're content with how the songs are sounding as a band, we start to include textures to the song. Programming has becoming a big part of our sound, but it's used subtly. Giving the focus to the band”.
What were the primary inspirations for the EP?
Ben Connett (Guitarist) “We've definitely embraced our personal influences on this EP. It's reflected in the music and how it is a significant change to what any of us have done before. The music is more rooted in mood and groove, something that we intend to continue to hone into being the band’s sound”.
What can we expect from Sleep Inertia in the coming months?
Sam Sara (Bassist) “We have always intended on releasing 2 EPs back to back. The release of Growth, Decay, Transformation took longer than anticipated, which means we already have several new tracks near completion! We will be straight back in the studio as soon as we're happy with how the tracks sound. Over the next few months, we are mainly focusing on performing these new tracks by playing as many shows as we possibly can”.
