SNĚŤ (Czech for "gangrene") is a Czech old-school death metal band formed in Prague in 2018. Emerging from the city's thriving underground extreme metal scene, the group quickly gained recognition for its filthy, rotten take on death metal, blending the cavernous heaviness of early Scandinavian death metal with the grotesque atmosphere of classic American acts such as Autopsy and Funebrarum. Their music is steeped in themes of disease, decay, gore, and bodily horror, while all lyrics are performed in their native Czech language, adding an unmistakable local identity to their sound.
Rather than relying on technical excess or polished production, SNĚŤ embraces an organic, raw approach built around crushing riffs, murky guitar tones, pounding rhythms, and oppressive songwriting. Their members have extensive backgrounds in Czech underground metal and punk bands, bringing years of experience that translate into an intense live performance marked by relentless energy and uncompromising brutality.
The band first attracted attention with their independently released Promo tape in 2019, which quickly sold out in underground circles. Their debut full-length album, Mokvání v okovech ("Festering in Shackles"), released in 2021, established SNĚŤ as one of the strongest new names in contemporary European old-school death metal. The album was praised for its suffocating atmosphere, memorable riffing, and authentic, disease-ridden aesthetic, earning the band international recognition through labels such as Me Saco un Ojo Records and Dark Descent Records.
Since then, SNĚŤ has become a regular presence at major underground festivals and has shared stages with respected acts including Spectral Voice, Krypts, Funebrarum, Galvanizer, and Impetuous Ritual. Their uncompromising dedication to primitive, rotten death metal has made them one of the most highly regarded modern death metal exports from the Czech Republic, appealing to fans of Undergang, Rippikoulu, Grave Miasma, and early Swedish death metal alike.
