BIOGRAPHY
Even though the name „Speed Limit“ surfaced some time before 1984, the band confirmed that year as the founding, when Austrian hardrock outfits „Ampere“ and „Speed Limit“ joined forces.
Soon they started recording what was to become a milestone in early central European Heavy Metal. In 1986 the self financed debute „Unchained“ was released and gave way to an uncommon longterm career.
With this record there was nearly no chance of not knowing Speed Limit as a young metal fan in Austria and big neigbour Germany. „Breaking Records“ – a recently established label from Vienna signed the band for good reasons such as exiting liveshows and outstanding songwiriting abilities.
In 1988 the Mini LP „Prophecy“ was released and the single track „Lady“ entered charts in 7 European countries by means of a high quality video clip broadcasted all over Europe.
Extensively live touring started – the reviews were golden, Speed Limit tracks appeared on compilations all over the globe, but a resonable breakthrough did not happen.
In 1990 the follow up album had been rejected by the label and rests in the vaults.
The band left for new horizons (Germany) and returned in 1992 with a kind of tamed version of their style with the „Perfect Inspiration“ album. But it was a hard time for heavy metal in the 1990s and not surprisingly Speed Limit dissolved in 1995.
2007 saw the reunion of the reassembled band touring Austria and Germay with Nazareth, Uriah Heep and Manfred Mann. The overwhelming feedback led to the release of comeback album „Moneyshot“, which was released in 2010 by „Pure Steel Records´“ sublabel „Pure Rock“.
„Moneyshot“ entered the Top 30 of „German Metal Rock Charts“ for 7 weeks and was gloriously reviewed in rock and metal press all over the world.
„Speed Limit“ made their joyride back on the wordmap of metal with tours and supportshows with bands like „Pretty Maids“, „China“, Kissin`Dynamite“, „Bonfire“, „Axxis“, „Pink Cream 69“, „Shakra“.
„Pure Steel Records´sublabel „Karthago“ took the chance and rereleased the 1980s LPs „Unchained“ & „Prophecy“ on CD in 2011.
After this Speed Limit decided to take enough time (haste makes waste) for songwriting as well as production for the next album „Anywhere We Dare“ released worldwide in 2017 by „Pure Rock Records“.
