Squelching is an American extreme metal act known for delivering some of the most grotesque and punishing sounds in the modern underground heavy music scene. Emerging from the United States—primarily associated with Tulsa, Oklahoma and later Indiana—Squelching blends elements of brutal death metal, slam, deathcore, beatdown, and grind-influenced extremity into an overwhelmingly heavy sonic assault.
The band quickly gained attention in underground circles for their filthy, suffocating production, downtuned riffs, and uniquely disturbing vocal performance. Their sound emphasizes raw brutality over technical flash, relying on crushing grooves, violent breakdowns, and an oppressive atmosphere designed to feel physical and uncomfortable. Fans often compare Squelching to acts such as Waking the Cadaver, Snuffed on Sight, Primitive Man, and Nails.
Squelching’s early material established the band as one of the more unsettling names in the new wave of slam-infused deathcore. Their music is intentionally ugly and abrasive, centered around themes of violence, bodily horror, psychological torment, and pure sonic aggression. Rather than polished production, the band embraces a grimy, claustrophobic sound that enhances the oppressive nature of the music.
