Northamptonshire rock band Stormbringer are back with a bang with their storming new album 'Transcendence', out on 4th September on Attic Records.
Blending a mix of classic rock and heavy metal with a contemporary edge that sets them apart, the band have released 4 albums, played numerous shows and festivals, including both Download and main stage at Bloodstock and are now raising the bar with their fifth and most powerful album yet.
Following the journey of their previous albums, Stormbringer continue to evolve with 'Transcendence' - a record that explores adversity, resilience, self-acceptance and the complex relationship between personal struggles and the world around us.
Musically, the album represents a further evolution of the band’s signature sound, combining crushing riffs, powerful melodies and emotionally charged performances. Stormbringer continue to embrace their heavy rock foundations while pushing their songwriting into new and more expansive territory.
“Every album captures a moment in time,” explains vocalist Mike Stockley. “Transcendence is about growth through adversity. It’s about recognising and accepting the darkness without allowing it to define you. The album confronts life’s struggles on both a personal and societal level, exploring the challenges we face as individuals while also reflecting on the world around us. These songs aren’t about offering easy answers - they’re about questioning, understanding and ultimately finding the strength to move forward.”
Produced by legendary producer Russ Russell (Napalm Death, Dimmu Borgir, At the Gates, The Wildhearts, The Exploited, Evile, The Haunted, New Model Army, Eradikator, Evil Scarecrow, Raging Speedhorn) and recorded at Parlour Studios in Kettering, Northamptonshire, Stormbringer return with their most ambitious and emotionally profound release to date.
A Journey Through Stormbringer’s Evolution
'Transcendence' represents a return to the foundations of Stormbringer’s identity, drawing inspiration from the themes and emotional honesty established on the band’s debut album MMXIII, while continuing the evolution of perspective explored on their fourth album AIIV. Where MMXIII was rooted in deeply personal reflection, exploring vocalist Mike Stockley’s own internal struggles, experiences and emotional battles, it represented the beginning of Stormbringer’s journey - a raw and honest exploration of the self.
By contrast, AIIV marked a shift in focus, looking beyond the individual to examine the wider world and the challenges faced by society. Its themes explored external struggles, social division, modern culture and the forces that shape the world around us. 'Transcendence' brings these two perspectives together. It explores both the internal and external battles we face—the conflicts within ourselves alongside the challenges created by the world around us.
The album embraces the concept of the shadow self - recognising that personal growth does not come from rejecting the darker aspects of who we are, but from understanding and accepting them. It explores the fears, flaws, experiences and emotions that shape us, while acknowledging that our personal struggles exist within a wider human experience.
'Transcendence' is the meeting point between looking inward and looking outward. It is about self-acceptance, awareness and growth - a reflection of where Stormbringer have been, where they are now, and where they are heading next.

BIOGRAPHY/LOGO

Stormbringer are a heavy metal and hard rock band from Northampton, Northamptonshire, England, formed in the summer of 2011. Combining the weight and power of heavy metal with the groove and accessibility of classic hard rock, the band have gradually established their own identity within the British underground through a steady succession of albums and an energetic live presence.
The origins of Stormbringer can be traced to guitarists Dom Wallace and Ash Smith, who began discussing a new musical project after both had moved on from their previous bands. Wallace had been involved with Deadeye as well as the acclaimed Northampton rock outfit Viking Skull, while Smith had played with Nekkrosis. The pair recruited drummer Jon Paul Quantrill, a longtime friend of Wallace, before bassist Darren McCullagh completed the instrumental core of the group.
The four musicians quickly developed a strong chemistry and began writing material together. Before they had even secured a permanent vocalist, they had accumulated enough songs for an entire album and entered the studio to begin recording. Vocalist Mike Stockley joined in late 2012, bringing a powerful classic-rock-influenced voice to the material and completing the line-up that recorded Stormbringer's debut album.
Released in 2013, MMXIII introduced the band's combination of traditional heavy metal, muscular hard rock and a more contemporary edge. Following the album's release, Stormbringer concentrated heavily on live performances, building their reputation through shows around the United Kingdom and eventually appearing at major events including Download Festival and Bloodstock Open Air.
A significant change came when Stockley departed and Jimi Brown took over lead vocals in 2014. Brown's arrival marked the beginning of a new chapter for Stormbringer and his voice became an important part of the increasingly confident and heavier sound heard on the band's second album, Blood & Rust, released in 2015 through Transcend Music. The record expanded upon the foundations of the debut while giving the band a harder, more focused identity built around heavy riffs, strong melodies and an unmistakable classic-metal backbone.
Stormbringer continued that progression with their third full-length, Born a Dying Breed, released in 2017. Featuring large, riff-driven hard rock and metal compositions alongside more melodic and restrained moments, the album demonstrated a band increasingly comfortable moving between aggression and melody without abandoning the straightforward energy that had characterised their earlier work. Songs such as “Through These Eyes,” “Bleed For” and “Dying Breed” helped represent this more developed version of the Stormbringer sound.
After several years of writing and development, the band returned with their fourth studio album, AIIV, in 2021. By this stage Stormbringer had evolved well beyond their beginnings while retaining the heavy grooves, twin-guitar attack and strong vocal hooks that had become central to their music. Rather than restricting themselves to a narrowly defined metal style, the band continued to draw upon heavy metal, stoner metal, hard rock and classic rock, allowing each of those elements to coexist within an increasingly recognisable sound of their own.
In 2026, Stormbringer entered another stage of their career with the release of their fifth full-length album, Transcendence. Arriving thirteen years after their debut, the record represents another milestone for a band whose core instrumental line-up has shown remarkable stability since its formation. Guitarists Ash Smith and Dom Wallace, bassist Darren McCullagh and drummer Jon Paul Quantrill have all remained part of Stormbringer since 2011, with vocalist Jimi Brown fronting the band since 2014.
Across their career, Stormbringer have remained firmly rooted in the traditions of British heavy music while refusing to become confined by them. Their music carries echoes of classic heavy metal and hard rock but combines those influences with modern production, thick guitar tones, powerful grooves and the occasional stoner-metal weight. This mixture has allowed the band to appeal to listeners from several corners of the rock and metal spectrum.
From a project conceived by two guitarists over a few drinks in Northampton to a long-running band with five studio albums behind them, Stormbringer have built their career through persistence, songwriting and an enduring enthusiasm for playing heavy music. More than a decade after their formation, they remain active and continue to follow the simple philosophy that has driven them from the beginning: to play hard, enjoy what they do and bring that energy to their audience.
