After five years of gestation THÆTAS return with an auditory statement for this moment in time, the new LP The Irredeemable Age out June 26th through Profound Lore Records. Pre-orders now live HERE.
The Irredeemable Age shows the band both refining and intensifying the brutal death metal approach from their debut LP, Shrines to Absurdity, while deepening their explorations into the bizarre, the uncharted and even the avant-garde. The result is a dynamic mosaic of obsessively dark, organic, off-kilter and kinetic death metal.
The four-piece band hail from the New York region, consisting of drummer Nick Crifo, guitarists Terrell Grannum (Reeking Aura, Buckshot Facelift, Squelching Flesh) & Pat Hawkins (Asystole, Needlepusher, Kyrios, Aberrated) and vocalist/bassist Cory Peterson (37564 Recordings).

BIOGRAPHY/LOGO

Thætas is an American technical/brutal death metal band from New York City, formed in 2015. Emerging from the fertile underground scene of modern U.S. death metal, the band quickly established itself with a sound that blends dissonant technicality with crushing brutality.
The group’s lineup has remained relatively stable since its formation, featuring members with ties to other underground acts such as Buckshot Facelift, Reeking Aura, and Aberrated. This background is reflected in Thætas’ music, which combines intricate riffing, unconventional structures, and a dense, oppressive atmosphere.
Thætas first introduced their sound through early demo material in 2016, showcasing a raw but already distinctive approach rooted in technical and brutal death metal traditions. Their debut full-length album, Shrines to Absurdity (2020), released via Maggot Stomp, marked a significant step forward, earning attention for its unpredictable songwriting and unique blend of brutality and angular, experimental riff work. The album demonstrated a willingness to push beyond genre clichés, incorporating unusual structures and tonal shifts while maintaining a relentless intensity.
After several years of development, the band returned with The Irredeemable Age, released in 2026 through Profound Lore Records, further expanding their sound and solidifying their place within the modern technical/brutal death metal scene.
Musically, Thætas is often associated with bands that merge technical precision and dissonance with sheer heaviness, drawing comparisons to acts like Gorguts and Suffocation. Their style is characterized by complex riffing, abrupt structural changes, and a balance between chaotic aggression and calculated composition.
With a growing discography and a reputation for inventive songwriting, Thætas continues to stand out as one of the more forward-thinking bands in contemporary brutal and technical death metal.
