The Florida-based melodic death metal quintet THE ABSENCE have unveiled a music video for a new song called 'Misery Trophies'. The clip, which premiered yesterday via Decibel Magazine, can now be viewed below:
The single, which is also available for download and stream via digital platforms, comes from their highly anticipated new album, A Gift for The Obsessed, out March 23rd on M-Theory Audio.
'Misery Trophies' marks THE ABSENCE's second music video release leading up to the launch of A Gift For The Obsessed. In January, the group posted a clip for the album's title track, which can be viewed below:
'Misery Trophies' is about the toxic people that we all have in our lives,' explains singer Jamie Stewart. 'The people who cannot wait to be the bearers of bad news - individuals so devoid of joy themselves, that they revel in the delivery of misery to others.'
The video was directed and shot by Deidra Kling and Jeramie Kling, and edited by Tommy Jones (Slayer, Testament) at VideoHammer.
A Gift for The Obsessed is THE ABSENCE’s first full-length in eight years, but the band members have been keeping themselves busy in their off-time, especially as of late touring with a number of high-profile acts. Bassist Mike Leon is currently touring with Soulfly as the group performs Nailbomb's 'Point Blank,' and will hit the road with the band again in April and May as they tour with Nile. Jeramie Kling, meanwhile, is drumming for Venom Inc. during their current European tour with Suffocation. Finally, guitarist Joey Concepcion is guesting with Sanctuary as the group tours North America with Iced Earth. This is all in addition to resumes that include names such as Soilwork, Havok, Arsis, Armageddon, Jasta, Necromancing the Stone, Ribspreader, Gus G and others highlighting the fact that the players in THE ABSENCE are go-to guys for first-rate musicians and excellent live performers.
A Gift for The Obsessed was produced by Jeramie Kling and Taylor Nordberg at Smoke & Mirrors Studios in Tampa, FL, mixed by David Castillo at Sweden’s Ghost Ward Studio (Katatonia, Opeth) and mastered by Thomas "Plec" Johansson at The Panic Room (Watain, Scar Symmetry), while the cover was created by Russian artist Stray Child.

BIOGRAPHY
The Absence, throughout three releases for Metal Blade Records and several years of touring in support, have been carried by an enormous swell of ups and downs in the extreme. Those who remain to begin the next stage of this voyage have grown stronger both as a group, and individuals as they have ridden the ebb and flow. There is a new dawn on the horizon for The Absence, a chance to head in new directions with fresh philosophies, music, and a renewed commitment to cause a blinding wake that will cut through the storm, which threatens to capsize even the bravest of ships.
After laying waste to an unsuspecting metal community with From Your Grave in 2005, the band's debut full length for Metal Blade Records, Riders of The Plague followed two years later as their sophomore release on the same label and had critics hailing The Absence as "Testament for the 21st century, bound to begin another thrash revolution!" Enemy Unbound, released in 2010, is full of the band's signature brand of high flying guitar histrionics and melodies, while Jamie Stewart's vocals are more aggressive and punctuated than ever before. The band released a single, "Oceans" which featured Per Nilsson on guitar.
With a new label, new management and worldwide booking... They will be embarking on the next chapter.
