Finnish modern metal band Volucrine are set to release their fifth album 'Chapter V: Renewal' via Inverse Records on September 25th 2026. The fourth single and music video 'Borderline' is out today and can be seen below:
The band's mastermind Jupe Velin comments:
"I originally started Volucrine as a therapeutic project so I could channel my negative feelings into music. It’s been almost eighteen years since then, and when you realize that the emotional gloom hasn’t really gone anywhere over the years, the mood can feel pretty bleak at times. When I was diagnosed with ADHD a few years ago, I was at least able to understand, in a certain way, why school, work, romantic relationships, and friendships have always been so difficult for me. For one reason or another, I’ve always had to pay a heavy price for being different and resort to wearing “masks.” It was from this perspective that I wrote “Borderline.” What is it like when you feel compelled to hide your true self and your psychological symptoms in order to be accepted by others?
This weighty theme provided a whole new opportunity to explore the power of low-tuning and mid-tempo. The song undeniably features subtle influences from Sleep Token and Deftones, which we wanted to highlight through heavy, grinding riffs rather than utilizing the melodic structures typical to Volucrine. We wanted to emphasize feelings of loneliness and alienation by recording the countdown to the launch of an imaginary space shuttle as the song’s intro. We are now heading toward infinite emptiness.
The music video ties together the story begun by the “Golem” single, in which masks are once again a central theme. Eetu Lindgren, a member of our band’s crew and a close friend, plays a man who gets lost in a winter forest while following the call of the masks. If you love “Lynchian” visual storytelling set in the twilight zones, this is for you!"

VOLUCRINE are a Finnish alternative metal collective, who released their debut album in 2011. Four albums, two EP’s and countless live shows later, the band's personal style has been honed to its peak, still emphasizing bold testing of boundaries within their genre. The band has a strong focus on their lyrics, which, due to their deeply personal nature, give Volucrine’s music a human voice.
After the ETNA LP (Inverse Records 2024), which garnered a lot of positive attention worldwide, the band is finally ready to present new material from their upcoming album, which will be released in the fall. With the theme of rebirth, we can expect the unexpected from this album as a great circle is closed.

BIOGRAPHY/LOGO

Volucrine is a Finnish progressive and melodic metal band from Kouvola, formed originally in 2009 under the name V. Combining elements of melodic death metal, progressive metal and modern alternative metal, the band has developed a distinctive sound built around heavy, rhythmically dynamic compositions, strong melodic contrasts and deeply personal lyrics.
The group began its career as V and released its debut full-length album, The Year of Relinquishment, through Inverse Records in 2011. Rather than focusing on fantasy or traditional metal imagery, the band's lyrics explored more intimate themes of longing, sorrow and the emotional fragility of human existence. This personal approach would remain an important part of the band's identity as its music continued to evolve.
In 2014, V changed its name to Volucrine. The newly renamed band introduced itself with the EP The Clockwork Tyrant the same year, followed by the full-length The Lead Heavens in 2015. These releases further established Volucrine's combination of melodic death metal aggression, progressive arrangements and a more contemporary approach to heavy music.
The band continued developing its sound with Skywards in 2019. By this point, Volucrine had moved increasingly beyond straightforward genre definitions, incorporating progressive structures, atmospheric passages and alternative metal influences without abandoning the heavier foundation of its earlier material.
In 2021, Volucrine released the Relinquished EP, revisiting material from the band's earliest period. The four-track release featured rearranged and newly recorded versions of songs originally appearing on The Year of Relinquishment, providing a direct connection between the band's beginnings as V and its later musical identity as Volucrine.
Another major step arrived with Etna, released through Inverse Records in February 2024. Created partly in the aftermath of the psychological strain and isolation of the pandemic period, the album presented some of Volucrine's most ambitious material to date. Technical and progressive elements were combined with heavy riffs, melodic passages and emotionally direct songwriting, further defining the band's increasingly individual approach to modern metal.
Volucrine subsequently underwent changes in its guitar lineup, with Marko Orava and Erik Lindroos joining vocalist Jupe Velin, bassist Joni Kyynäräinen and drummer Jani-Sebastian Aalto. With the renewed lineup, the band began working on another chapter of its career.
In 2026, Volucrine announced its fifth full-length album, Chapter V: Renewal, scheduled for release on September 25 through Inverse Records. Preceded by the songs “Golem,” “Talk” and the self-titled “Volucrine,” the thirteen-track album revolves around themes of renewal and rebirth while continuing the band's tendency to challenge the boundaries between progressive, melodic and alternative metal.
More than fifteen years after its beginnings in Kouvola, Volucrine has developed from its melodic death and progressive metal roots into a band with a broader and increasingly personal musical identity. Heavy and technical when necessary but equally willing to emphasize melody, atmosphere and vulnerability, Volucrine continues to build its music around the human experiences of change, loss, struggle and renewal.
