Withered Petunia is a Finnish melodic death metal/metalcore band formed in Äänekoski, Central Finland, in 2022. Combining the aggression of modern death metal with melodic passages, hardcore influences and occasional progressive elements, the band has developed a sound built around heavy riffing, dark atmospheres and a balance between brutality and melody.

The band consists of vocalist Leevi Raatikainen, guitarists Juuso Hytönen and Joel Eskelinen, bassist Tuure Honkonen and drummer Mikael Kalkku. Rather than restricting themselves to a single style, Withered Petunia draw inspiration from several corners of extreme and modern metal, incorporating elements of death metal, melodic metal and hardcore into their music.

Withered Petunia began introducing their material in 2024 with the songs “My Choice”, “Falling from the Sky” and “Power from Pain”. These early releases established the band's mixture of aggressive riffing, melodic ideas and contemporary metal influences, paving the way for their first larger release.

On January 31, 2025, Withered Petunia released their self-titled debut EP independently. The five-track release featured “Withering Away”, “My Choice”, “Falling from the Sky”, “Power from Pain” and “Rotten to the Core”, offering a broader representation of the band's musical approach. The EP was produced, mixed and mastered by Mika-Matti Kuusela and marked the band's first substantial statement after their initial series of songs.

Later in 2025, Withered Petunia joined Finnish label Inverse Records and returned with “Fragility of a Mind”. Released in September, the song showed further development in the band's sound, bringing progressive ideas, technical riffing and an increasingly dark atmosphere into their established mixture of death metal, melodic metal and hardcore. The track also demonstrated the band's willingness to explore darker subject matter, dealing with psychological trauma and the fragility of the human mind.

Although still a relatively young name within the Finnish metal underground, Withered Petunia have already established a clear identity through their willingness to combine different branches of extreme and modern metal. Their music moves between crushing heaviness and melody while leaving room for technical and progressive experimentation, giving the band considerable freedom to develop their sound further.

With their self-titled debut EP laying the foundation and their subsequent material pointing toward an increasingly ambitious direction, Withered Petunia represent another emerging force from Finland's continually fertile extreme metal scene.
