BIOGRAPHY
ZARPA was formed by Vicente Feijoo in Mislata (Valencia), who was both singer and lead-guitarist of the band. Vicente is a kind of allrounder, who has a very good voice, is a superb guitarist and, moreover, is a good painter, who designs and paints all the cover-artworks himself.
ZARPA may never have been as famous as their countrymen BARON ROJO, OBUS and ANGELES DEL INFIERNO, for who it was much easier to become known in Spain’s capital city Madrid. But nevertheless, ZARPA could get quite al lot of fame by touring the country and playing a lot of gigs.
ZARPA’s first LP “Los Cuatros Jinetes del Apocalipsis” was released in 1978 by a small local label. Vicente’s brother Eduardo played the bass and Javier Hervias the drums. The same line-up recorded the next two albums “Angeles o Demonios” (1983) and “Herederos de un Imperio” (1985), which both can be counted among the most influential 80ies-Metal-LPs in Spain. Another album, which was produced 1986 in Geneve, “En Ruta hacia Europa”, could not be released because of very high production costs.
Vicente composed and produced a solo-album in 1996 “Solar Signs”, which unfortunately was very commercial and had a weak singer, Franck Ronin from France, so it had no chance on the market. After this failure, Vicente came back to ZARPA and released a great comeback-album in 2002: “Luchadores de la Paz”. Rafa Játiva (Ex-SABLE) was playing the guitar, Vicente Romero the bass and Manolo Cascales the drums.
The band then met the German label Karthago Records and signed a contract for their next CDs. In 2004 their next album “Infierno” was released, the cover-artwork again painted by Vicente himself. There was also a collectors-LP-edition in black, red and green (very rare!) vinyl.
The cooperation with Karthago Records was very positive for ZARPA and Vicente; he designed and painted several cover-artworks for other Karthago-bands. In 2007 the next album, “El Yunque contra el Martillo” was released, with Bienvenido Godoy now playing the drums.
This line-up also recorded the next album, “Iberia”, in 2009. This album contains an extra DVD with ZARPA’s live-concert for their 30th anniversary! In 2009 ZARPA came to Germany to play at the Swordbrothers-Festival at Andernach and to promote their album.
