Every now and then when listening through loads of new albums you’re in for a big surprise when you least expect it, and that was certainly the case when I first heard this debut album from Atlanta, Georgia based Paladin. Stylistically we’re talking a blend of power metal, thrash and melodic death metal, nothing unique actually but what separates ‘Ascension’ from the masses is the freshness and raw energy...
More than four years have passed since Norwegian power metal outfit Triosphere released their previous album ‘The Road Less Travelled’. Since then Ørjan Aare Jørgensen has left the band and Kenneth Tårneby has joined the band as their new drummer. Now the wait is finally over as their third studio album entitled ‘The Heart Of The Matter’ is ready to be released. It sounds unmistakable Triosphere just like you...
Death Dealer is probably a new name to some, myself included, but if you are a fan of traditional heavy metal and power metal you will soon discover a few familiar faces in the lineup, some real veterans within the genre. ‘War Master’ was originally released in 2013 on CD, but is now also made available on vinyl. Death Dealer is actually more like a US power metal all-star...
There has been significant changes in the Riot camp since the release of the excellent 2011 album ‘Immortal Soul’ featuring the same line up that recorded the classic ‘Thundersteel’ and ‘The Privilege Of Power’ albums. First there is of course the tragic passing away of founder member, composer and guitar maestro Mark Reale whose memory this new album is dedicated to. In addition to this vocalist Tony More decided...
Tad Morose must be among the most underrated power metal bands around today, despite the fact that they have delivered several strong albums throughout their career they have never really received the attention they deserve. Since the beginning in 1991 numerous members have passed through the ranks of Tad Morose and that is once again the case in front of the release of ‘Revenant’. New members on this album...
Rocking Rolf and his Running Wild are back with what is their 15th studio album, and their second since the reunion. I must admit that I have never been a fan of Running Wild and, with the exception of ´Death And Glory´, I haven´t been very impressed with any of the albums I´ve heard over the years. Last years ´Shadowmaker´ was actually quite poor so you can safely say...
Wisdom is a Hungarian power metal band that was founded back in 2001. Ahead of ‘Marching For Liberty’ they have released two studio albums, ‘Words Of Wisdom’ (2006) and ‘Judas’ (2011). Their music can be described as a mixture of up-tempo traditional heavy metal and power metal in the vein of Rhapsody, while the lead guitars at times are moving more towards neo-classical metal. The comparison to Rhapsody is...
Zak Stevens and his CIRCLE II CIRCLE are back with their sixth studio album, this time released through Ear Music, the same label who released late Savatage albums such as 'Dead Winter Dead' and 'The Wake Of Magellan'. I've always been a huge fan of Zak's charsimatic and theatrical voice and I love much of the stuff he have delivered with Circle II Circle in the past, but on...
