More than four years have passed since Norwegian power metal outfit Triosphere released their previous album ‘The Road Less Travelled’. Since then Ørjan Aare Jørgensen has left the band and Kenneth Tårneby has joined the band as their new drummer. Now the wait is finally over as their third studio album entitled ‘The Heart Of The Matter’ is ready to be released. It sounds unmistakable Triosphere just like you...

Over the past twenty years or so several great progressive metal band have emerged out of the Norwegian metal scene. In the early stages bands like Manitou, Trivial Act and Spiral Architect led the way and was later followed by Pagan’s Mind, Circus Maximus and Illusion Suite to name a few. Even though ‘Prison Of Light’ is their debut album these guys have been around for a while and...

This album has been out for a few months by now, but better late than never they say. Embryo is an Italian melodic death metal band that has been around since the start of the new millennium and they have released two albums prior to this one. I can’t recall having heard any of their first two albums, but from what I’ve read their 2010 album, ‘No god slave’,...

Fates Warning has always sorted among my absolute favorite bands when it comes to progressive metal, mostly due to the monumental albums released in the early stages carreer such as 'Awaken The Guardian', 'Parallels' and basically all their other albums from the eighties. The albums released after 'Parallels' though haven't appealed to me in the same way, but with 'Darkness In A Different Light' from 2013 the band was...

Swiss hard rock veterans Krokus are back with what is their 17th studio album, as they can look back on a career reaching nearly fourty years back in time. On 'Dirty Dynamite' Krokus return with their original line up plus Mandy Meyers and the album also sees the band return to their roots musically. In the early stages of their career Krokus were often referred to as the little...

I used to play the early Dark Moor albums quite frequently some years ago, especially the ‘The Hall Of The Olden Dreams’ album, but I somehow lost my interest in the band when their charismatic singer Elisa Martin left the band being replaced by Alfred Romero. I simply felt that they lost some of their uniqueness with her departure. That means I’ve missed out on some of their later...

Psycrence is a progressive metal band heading from Athens, Greece, formed in 2009 and have only released one demo ahead of ‘A Frail Deception’. Don’t expect anything groundbreaking from Psycrence, they stay true to the well known progressive metal formula and you can easily hear elements of bands such as Dream Theater and Symphony X in their sound. Nothing wrong about that though as long as they deliver quality...
