When it comes to classic hard rock British legends Thunder has always been a safe bet. Even though their 1990 debut 'Backstreet Symphony' is still considered to be their magnum opus all their later albums are solid quality as well. 'Rip it Up' is the eleventh studio album showing a band that sounds vital as ever and I absolutely love the guitar work Luke Morley and Ben Matthews has...
Heading from Houston, Texas Desecrate The Faith are back with their second full lentght album entitled 'Unholy Infestation' to follow up their 2014 debut 'Disfigured Arrangement'. We're talking brutal death metal the American way, no bullshit - straight forwad death metal in other words. Allthough it's full speed ahead more or less all the way there are quite a few interesting riffs and themes to be found on this...
Mors Principium Est released a couple of enjoyable albums in the early/mid 2000´s, but for some reason they haven´t received much of my attention in the later years. There´s been a few line-up changes over the years, like british guitarist Andy Gillion who joined the band in 2011 and he has since then been the main composer in the band. Despite this the musical direction of Mors Principium Est...
Even though I've labelled this review of Indian Demonic Resurrection as death metal, I must add that it's actually not a very accurate description of the music presented on 'Dashavatar'. There are certainly huge elements of death metal in their style, but you can also hear elements of black metal in the vein of for instance Dimmu Borgir as well as symphonic and folk inspired elements. The vocal style...
New York based death metal veterans Immolation are back with theri 10th studio album, and Ross Dolan, Robert Vigna and their band mates are still going strong despite a carreer spanning over nearly three decades. If you're already into Immolations musical universe you know what to expect from a new album and you know what you get. No big surprises here in other words. Straight forward, in your face...
‘Ruins Of Empires’ is third full length album from Canadian death metallers Aeternam, and I’ve been waiting in anticipation for this band to follow up their excellent 2012 release ‘Moongod’. Aeternam is by no means a mainstream death metal band since their music and lyrics are heavily inspired by Middle Eastern music and history. Yes, there are other bands following the same recipe but even though parallels could be...
It’s been five years since Kreator released their masterpiece ‘Phantom Antichrist’, in my opinion the best album in their career….and yes, I have then taken their 1989 classic ‘Extreme aggression’ into account. Anyway, the wait is finally over as the successor entitled ‘Gods of Violence’ has now been made available to the waiting horde. The recipe is more or less the same as last time and that’s a good...
Third full length album from Bay Area progressive death metal band Inanimate Existence, entitled ‘Calling from a dream’ is a conceptual story of a young man’s journey to reunite with the soul of his lost lover. Through his dreams, she guide’s him across a dark mysterious world filled with gods and demons. So much for the lyrical concept, let’s focus on the music. With ‘Calling from a dream’ the...
With their first official release Italian band The Burning Dogma offers something different to the death metal genre by incorporating elements of several different styles into their music. Keyboards are used to create a symphonic atmosphere while clean male and female vocal parts can be heard every now and then as a supplement to the death grunts. Some of the interlude sections contain electronic, industrial sounding effects, and even...
Once in a while, when searching through the endless jungle of new releases, you will discover gold. Albums that you instantly know will be played frequently for years to come. 'Paramnesia' certainly represents one of those rare moments that makes the search for new music worthwhile. Destroying The Devoid is a solo project from Deeds Of Flesh guitarist Craig Peters where his aim was to push the boundaries of...
